BAS June Program and Meeting

Thursday, 14 Jun 2018 18:30 – 21:00
Brainerd Road 4315, Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States

Come join the BAS for our June Program and Meeting at the Jones Observatory! We especially would like to welcome folks who are new to the area, or new to the hobby, to get to know us.

June Program: “A Brief History of the Dobsonian Revolution” and “Why and How I Built My 16” DOBS”

By BAS Member Ralph McConnell

In the first part of the program Ralph will look at the history of amateur telescope making over the past one hundred years.  As this history progresses, we will see how the Dobsonian style alt-azimuth telescope mount, created by John Dobson fifty years ago, has revolutionized not only amateur telescope making but amateur astronomy as a whole.  In the second part of the program Ralph will talk about why and how he built his 16” Dobsonian telescope.

We will be gathering at 6:30 and the meeting will begin about 7.

Please park in the upper lot behind Brainerd Methodist Church (by the cemetery) and walk up the short drive to the back door. Avoid parking at the bottom of the hill on Tuxedo Ave - there is a path through the woods that is spookier than the cemetery at night - not lit and kind of a climb.

We look forward to seeing you!
