UPDATE 8/11/23 1:45 pm: Folks, the crystal balls look good, and it looks like David Karnes has come through, so we are a GO! for tonight’s star party! This will be the final update for this event. We are looking forward to seeing everyone tonight, along with some gorgeous astronomical objects!

The BAS and the Tennessee Tree Toppers are thrilled to announce our first Star Party collaboration at the TTT Paragliding Facility overlooking the beautiful Sequatchie Valley on Friday, August 11, from 5:30 – 11:00 pm ET.

Come join us for a wonderful evening of stargazing in a great little pocket of dark sky. The BAS will have solar telescopes for sungazing (sunset isn’t until about 8:30 pm ET) and regular telescopes for viewing stars, clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. Saturn is returning to the evening sky, so we will be on the lookout for the ringed planet.

As if that isn’t enough, it is Perseid Meteor Shower weekend, and the Moon won’t be in the sky until 3:00 am. This is one of the best meteor showers of the year, and the TTT site should be a great place to catch some!

Meteorologist (the other kind) David Karnes from Local Three Weather will be live from 4:30-6:00 ET.

***Understand that parking may be a challenge for this event. Cars will be parked in the main lot and around the perimeter road inside the gate. There will be folks to assist with parking vehicles.***

Restrooms will be available on-site. The BAS wants to remind guests that we all need to work together to leave the TTT facility in better condition than we found it 😊.

Updates will be posted here at 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm ET on the day of the event regarding weather conditions and possible cancellation.
